February 15th NW PA Fishing Report

Ice fishing in PA Great Lakes Region has come to an early end this year. The forecast for milder temperatures through the next two week period has terminated any hope of safe ice resurrection for the rest of this winter. Anglers’ thoughts are now focused on getting ready for earlier than expected open water season. Right now in our region the best bites are for walleye, yellow perch, wild trout and steelhead. Check out the details in this issue.

January 18th NW PA Fishing Report

This is certainly a weird winter for NW PA with both record cold and record heat only days apart during the first four weeks of winter. Ice was early, then gone, then back, then gone again. Allegheny River and French Creek are currently receding from flood stage. Right now the best bet for fishing are the Erie tributaries which have receded some – but had fresh run of steelhead during the high water. Next best bet are the outflow areas below the dams at Woodcock Lake, Pymatuning Lake and Shenango Lake.
