Dan @ Elk Creek Sports; filed 6/10: Fishing is so good the walleyes are practically jump-
ing into boats. It’s no brainer – just like last year. Limit catches for many anglers. Over
the weekend one of the charter boats went out and returned in 1.5 hours with six-man
limit of eye up to 23 inches. That’s 36 walleyes in less than 1-1/2 hours. Drop something
over the side that flashes and a walleye is on it. I think there are so many walleyes out
there isn’t enough bait to satisfy them, thus they hit any lure that moves. Also, I think
perch are not sitting up in big schools because mega schools of walleyes are moving on
them busting them up. There is something to think about. Bass are out of Elk Creek; now
it’s spawning time for catfish moving into the creek; I’ve seen some 15-pound channels
caught recently. At the present time, you can launch boats up to 18 feet at the Elk Creek
ramp and get out to the lake due to the high water. But there is a lot of mud on the
ramp so you will need boots. Be careful.
Richard @ Someday Isle Tackle (SIT); filed 6/10: Team Someday Isle
spent the weekend casting from piers. If you just want to catch fish
and don’t care what’s bending the rod, the piers of Presque Isle are a
great place to start. We used 1/8 and ¼-oz Water Puppets tipped
with half a crawler. Cast as far as you can and let the jig sink to the
bottom, then slowly bounce it back. We caught sheepshead like cra-
zy, smallmouth bass, walleye and even a northern pike with this SIT photo
technique. Get out and have fun! (Photos)
Dave Horvath (Edinboro); filed 6/9: The Erie West report: walleye
bite is coming on strong. Shortly before daylight fish are in skinny wa-
ter – 15 to 25 feet. With sun up, walleyes move out to 35 to 45 feet.
Drifting worm harness and throwing Erie Dearies seem to work best.
Also trolling with spoons and Bay Rat plugs – and Reef Runners – also
works. Tight lines, Dave.

Pete @ Smallies on the Yough; filed 6/9: We waded Presque Isle Bay
this past weekend, catching more largemouth bass than smallmouth
bass – landing 35 bass in the post spawn. I stopped at a tributary to
see if smallmouth were still there and eating. But it was post spawn
with a ton of fry in the water. Caught a solid 20 incher then left the
creek. (Photos)
