Fishing with Darl Black Guide Service Updates
th
When the January issue of the NW PA Fishing Report is posted online on the 18 , there will on-
ly be 61 days until the First Day of Spring! You can follow along with my Fishing Friday Count-
down on my “Fishing with Darl Black” Facebook Page; each Friday I will post a fish pic from an
outing in NW PA. As I was perusing my photo file for countdown images, I reflected on my trav-
els as an outdoor communicator and how many different places in the US that I had the oppor-
tunity to fish with pro anglers, guides and acquaintances in the tackle industry. Therefore I de-
cided to also have Traveling Tuesday on my “Fishing with Darl Black” page, presenting images
of fishing trips with friends around the US. Watch for Traveling Tuesday and Fishing Friday
Countdown on Facebook!
I will begin my guiding season for crappies at Pymatuning Lake
starting May 1 and continue at Pymatuning until mid-July. I will not be
accepting walleye trips in April as last year; instead I will refer any re-
quests specifically for walleye to Gamma Guide Jeff Knapp. However, I
do plan to fish for smallmouth bass at Pymatuning in April. If anyone is
interested in an April bass trip, get in touch with me for details. I will
only be taking one individual on each of these trips.
Starting mid-July, I will shift focus from Pymatuning to Conneaut Lake,
targeting crappies, big bluegills and huge pumpkinseeds through mid-
September. Conneaut Lake offers the best summer panfishing of any
lake in western PA or eastern Ohio.
I will also run bass trips on Conneaut and Lake Wilhelm during the summer and fall.
I plan to return to Pymatuning for crappies around the end of September, and conclude the
guiding season around early November.
Special Note: If someone is on a summer
vacation to Pymatuning and really desires a
crappie trip, call me to discuss the possibili-
ties. Please keep in mind that I find the
crappie bite at Pymatuning during late sum-
mer to be far less exciting than fishing a va-
riety of panfish on Conneaut Lake.
