Oct 14th – The fish on the Allegheny know it is time to start
getting ready for winter. Nice day on the river; we caught
some fish in the 13-16 inch range and the two biggest
ones were 20 inches and 18 inches. I caught the 20 incher
on a 412ube from 412 Bait Co by Donald Corbett. Some
fish were in deeper water, but the two biggest ones were
in shallow water – only 2 feet deep. I would say the fish
were scattered!
Oct 18th – We fished the Allegheny River on this great Octo-
ber day looking for smallmouths. The sun was high in the
sky with temperatures in the 70s. The bite was on the soft
side most of the day until evening when it got a little
better. Overall a decent day on the Allegheny with 21 to-
tal smallmouths with biggest going 19 inches – caught on
a 412ube from 412 Bait Co. (more photos in Livewell)
“Fishing with Darl Black Guide Service” reminds everyone that late fall is Blade Bait time.
Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Crappie, White Bass, Yellow
Perch, Channel Cats and even Bluegills can be caught
with this simple lure once water temperatures drop into
the lower-50s and colder. Darl has an article in the cur-
rent Nov-Dec issue of the Pennsylvania Angler & Boater
Magazine detailing how to use blade baits for walleyes.
“Most blade baits will work for walleyes when fish are
actively feeding, but certain blades work better when
the bite is slow,” says Darl. “And I find particular blades
along with certain nuances in presentation to work
better for Smallmouth Bass than for walleyes.” If you

trip with Darl. Contact him ASAP at
