January 18, NW PA Fishing Report

This is certainly a weird winter for NW PA with both record cold and record heat only days apart during the first four weeks of winter. Ice was early, then gone, then back, then gone again. Allegheny River and French Creek are currently receding from flood stage. Right now the best bet for fishing are the Erie tributaries which have receded some – but had fresh run of steelhead during the high water. Next best bet are the outflow areas below the dams at Woodcock Lake, Pymatuning Lake and Shenango Lake.
