VENANGO COUNTY
Allegheny River
Jeff Knapp @ Keystone Connection Guide Service; filed 11-5: During much of the past two
weeks the Middle Allegheny River has been high and
unfishable, first from fluctuating Kinzua discharge. Prior
to that we had excellent fishing for smallmouth bass
and walleye action was picking up too. Tubes, including
Z Man’s TRD, took most of the fish. With the Allegheny
continuing to run high we’ve been concentrating on
Keystone Power Dam, catching some dandy small-
mouth bass there on a variety of baits such as Z Man’s
Hula Stickz.

Gene Winger (Oil City); filed 11-4: The last week of October was a memorable week to be on
the river. Denny and I caught a boat load of nice smallmouth
bass, with several going better than four pounds. The bass
smashed our 3.75” and 4.75” swimbaits when we dead drifted
them over area where bass typically stack up on the fall. I knew
we were in for a good day when I caught a nice musky while tun-
ing my new bait caster at the Oil City ramp while waiting for Den-
ny to park the truck. After a perfect week Mother Nature did her
thing, bringing heavy rains and high water that pretty much shut
down the bass bite.

Keith @ Dutch Fork Custom Lures; filed
10-27: Keith and Jason Hagg fished the
upper Allegheny and caught two wall-
eyes and a bunch of nice smallies on
tubes. Best tube was one I bought in
Washington State which was golden
brown with gold flake. Awesome trip on
the river – windy and chilly but fish were
biting.
