October 17th issue of NW PA Fishing Report

image description

With very little rain and exceptionally warmer than usual temperature hanging on into early October, typical fishing patterns in Northwest Pennsylvania have been out of alignment. In addition to higher-than- normal water temps, inland lakes were low, and either clearer than normal or suffering from toxic algae blooms. The migrating schools of Erie walleyes moved West, while the early fall steelhead run was stopped at the mouths of creeks due to very low water. The smallmouth bass bite on the Allegheny River was the best thing going. Much cooler temperatures and rain descended on the area in recent days, and all anglers are expecting the bite for most species to pick up across the region.
