Allegheny River
Jeff @ Keystone Connection Guide Service; filed 6/7: Between river smallmouth bass
moving onto beds, and high/dirty water, I’ve only done a limited number of river guide
trips since the last Report. During the few trips I ran, where we avoided known spawn-
ing areas, we caught plenty of pre-spawn smallies as well as some nice walleyes. Soft
swimbaits were the hot bait. Looking forward to (and hoping for) lower/clearer river
conditions, and river smallies setting up in summer patterns. (Jeff Knapp photos below)
Generation Three
By David Graham
Among fishermen, the name G3 is recognized as name of an excellent
aluminum boat manufacturer – the third generation of this boat build-
ing company. But locally G3 can also apply to fishing Grahams of Tidi-
oute. Father Bob, son David and grandson RJ have fished together
since 1980. According to David, every Memorial Day weekend they
Bob Graham make a family fishing trip. Initially they went to Black Lake in upper
New York, but for the last 25 years they have gone to Chautauqua Lake
for the weekend.
“On our first tip to Black Lake, I had only two Ugly Sticks from
Jamesway,” recalls David. “Now there are more rods and tackle in the
boat today than I care to count! It has been quite a ride and I would

not change a thing. One year we had to borrow a van because my
truck broke down the day before we left – but we still went as a family.
The trips have changed from just being about fishing in the beginning
to about being together as a family. Few sports pull you together like
fishing, and it is without a doubt my family’s happy place. My dad is
now 86 and still wants to go with us – whether he catches fish or not!”
