All of the rain the last two weeks
has been both a blessing and a
curse. Trout fishing has been a

bit tough with all the precipita-
tion but this will undoubtedly ex-
tend our season well into sum-
                                     mer! In between raindrops the
local fishing remains fantastic. Bugs continue to hatch on Sugar
Creek, Oil Creek and Little Sandy Creek. Lots of trout are being
caught on our guide trips. This is shaping up to be one of the best summer fishing sea-

            sons in recent memory! (Photos)

               - Sugar Creek Memorial Day Weekend: My guests visiting our region enjoyed good
weather conditions. With Sugar Creek looking sweet, we hit the stream hard for
three days. Eighty-four trout – mainly rainbows – hit drifted pieces of crawlers,
wax worms and meal worms. Occasionally a brown trout would take a bait.
                                               st
               - Lake Wilhelm: On June 1 I took Mikey Galkowski over to Lake Wilhelm. We
caught a mix of bluegills and crappies. Drifting along in 8 feet of water, panfish
aggressively hit pieces of crawlers. We switched to trolling worm harnesses; alt-
hough no walleyes were caught, we did boat half a dozen 12 to 13-inch crappies.
               - Justus Lake: on June 2, my fishing buddy San Heufner and Mikey joined me for a
few hours on Justus Lake. We slow trolled and wind drifted crawlers and live
creek chubs. We caught fish after the rain moved out. Ended our day with 2 large-
mouth bass and 3 smallmouth bass, 3 rainbow trout and a perch.
                                                                                                       rd
               - Native stream: with Sugar Creek unsafe to fish due to high water on June 3 . I
headed to a native trout stream with crawlers for brook trout. Catching wild
brown trout provided quite a thrill; several were 12 inches and a couple pushed
                   15 inches.
