Jeff @ Poor Richards; filed 10-23: Streams are low and clear. But they are
catching steelhead on single eggs and minnows. At tributary mouths they
are catching fish on spoons (blue/chrome, green/chrome), and Power Bait.
There was a 10 pound steelhead taken at Walnut the other day. However,
we are not seeing many brown trout – which have been numerous this time
of fall in the past couple seasons, and the few we have seen are small in
size.
Dan @ Elk Creek Sports; filed 10-23: Steelhead fishing is absolutely great!
Why? I don’t understand. All streams are low and clear but they are still

catching a mess of fish. Steelies have moved way up stream already while
more are at mouth. They are catching them on everything – flies, crawlers,
sucker spawn, skein, eggs, spoons – it doesn’t matter. If you can’t catch a
steelhead right now, you’ll never catch one – that is how easy it is. More wa-
ter may be coming with the forecast rain in the next couple days. What hap-
pens then? There are still a lot of fish at mouths just offshore waiting to
come in. This is probably the best year since the 1980s. Only thing missing
are the brown trout.

lot of steelhead right here at the camp. Great fall! Lots of fun! (See photos)
Jeff Barkley; filed 10-23: Had a great time on Lake Erie this past weekend with John Galida. Fall
smallmouths are hitting. Also got some walleyes. Tubes and Galida’s Grubz did the trick. (See

John Galida @ GalidasGrubz.com (Prospect); filed
10-23: I have not fished Erie in October for some
time, but sure had fun this weekend. Jeff and I
caught smallmouth from 6 feet to 30 feet on spin-
nerbaits, tubes and of course Galida’s Grubz. I
caught a walleye on a Pearl Chartreuse Grubz in 10
feet of water. All smallies in accompanying photos
came on the same Grubz color. Have fun, but watch
for wind shifts this time of year. And whoever wins a packet of Galida’s Grubz through the NW
Fishing Report don’t wait until next spring to try them. Fish them NOW! Big fish are eating
grubs in the fall. (See photos here & in Livewell)
