In Appreciation of Prize Providers to the Fishing Report
As the 2018 fishing season winds down, it is appropriate to
once again thank the companies which provided tackle prizes
for drawings on the Fishing Reports. If you have been a regu-
lar contributor to the Fishing Report more than likely you
have won one or more of these products. This season the
company list included western Pennsylvania-based Galida’s
Grub, 412 Bait Company, Someday Isle Tackle, Radians Po-
larized Safety Glasses (Angler Al’s American First Aid) as well as longtime Fishing Report spon-
sor Gamma Line. Tackle packets were also supplemented with items from Road Runner Baits,
Bobby Garland Baits, Thill Floats, Booyah Baits and Yum. Please check out their Facebook Pag-
es and websites when you are looking for Christmas stocking stuffers.
Panfish Jig Giveaway: After seeing my Pymatuning Adventure
short in the fall issue of In-Fisherman, Jim Laskay sent me a
sampler of his handmade panfish jigs to help spread the word.
Each one is work of art for crappies, bluegills and perch (see
photo above). These jigs would be great in the spring sus-
pended below a bobber in open water or fished on 1-pound
test in an ice hole. With ice fishing season coming up quickly, I
thought it would be great to get them out to someone to try.
Here is what I’m going to do…the first individual to send me a
photo of a crappie, bluegill or perch caught during the first two weeks of December 2018 will
receive Jim’s panfish jig kit. There will only be one Report in December, likely published on the
th
19 in time for Christmas holidays; the winner will be announced in that issue. If you are inter-
ested in contacting Jim about his panfish jigs, here is his contact info: Jim Laskay, 160 Country-
side Dr., Enon, OH 45323. (He does not have email, a Facebook Page or website.)
THE MAN WITH 17 LIVES by Bill Vaznis
When outdoor communicator Bill Vaznis informed me his new book
was under consideration for a Pulitzer Prize, I had to request a copy to
review. It wasn’t the book I expected. Then again, maybe it was. After
all, when an author details surviving 17 near-death experiences that
individual is certain to reflect on his own mortality and his relationship
with a higher power. But don’t get the idea this book is about religion –
it is not. It is however, about one man’s personal communication with
his God undertaken during life-and-death experiences in the Canadian
bush, American wilds and waterways, as well as multiple health crises
which should have ended his life, all wrapped in well-written gritty ac-
count which you will difficult to put down. THE MAN WITH 17 LIVES by
Bill Vaznis is available at www.amazon.com.
