Darl Black on Pymatuning John Braymer Last trip of the year
Darl @ Fishing with Darl Black Guide Service; filed 11-18: This fall the crappie bite was
not nearly as good as the past couple falls. I could only catch scattered crappies here and
there off the deep cover – until I started thinking outside the box and discovered nice-size
crappies in what to me seemed to be unusual areas for mid-fall. On the day I discovered
them, RJ Graham and I boated nearly 40 crappies between us in a short time with the big
ones going 14 inches. On a trip a few days later with John Braymer on the 15th, the big
crappies did not turn on until late in the day. But we quickly put a number of very respect-
able crappies in the livewell for John to take home. The Guide Service is officially closed
for the winter. We will begin spring walleye trips in April at Pymatuning, followed by crap-
pies trips starting in May. If interested in details regarding trip offerings in 2017, please
drop me an email at darlblack@windstream.net and I’ll put you on the mailing list.
ERIE COUNTY
Presque Isle Bay
Dominic @ Lake Erie Bait & Tackle; filed 11-21: Wind blowing like crazy the last couple
days. No one is fishing right now. However, reports from the past week have crappies and
bluegills being caught in Marina Lake and walleye off the North Pier. Everyone is hoping
for improved conditions for the holiday weekend.
Paul Stewart (Butler);
? Filed 11-14: Went perch fishing on Sunday the 13th. The day started with a hook up
on every cast, but slowed down as the sun got higher. We ended up with a dozen
nice keepers each, and threw back many smaller ones. The large fish are slowly
making their way into the Bay. Hopefully more large ones will be in within the next
week or two. Our bait was golden shiners – they worked fine.
? Filed 11-17: We went perch fishing on Thursday the 17th since the weather looked
bad for the weekend. It was a slow start in the morning. We made some moves and
then got some really nice fish in the afternoon, including several doubles. Golden
shiners still working well. When the bait got low, I used Bobby Garland Baby Shads
to catch some fish. (See Livewell photos)
