Steelhead Forecast for Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend
With many people having extended time off over the Thanksgiving Holiday period, steel-
head fishing will certainly attract a lot of attention – especially for those coming home to
visit family. Therefore the NW PA Fishing Report called on Erie’s old salt Dan Seaman at Elk
Creek Sports to make his best forecast for the coming holiday weekend.
Dan Seaman: Going into the snow and rain period of this past weekend, the creeks were
low and clear…reasonable flow, but we can use more water plus a little color. With several
days of light rain and snow melt leading into Thanksgiving Day, the creeks should be in
good shape for a stronger bite – good flow, slight color but not muddy and high. If the
rains are not too heavy on Thursday and Friday, fishing could be very good over the week-
end and into the first week of December. The initial slow rise of a steelhead stream always
signal good fishing as more fish move in. The longer streams (like Elk, Conneaut, or Twenty
Mile) typically hold the flow for longer period. Expectations are good for fishing success
over Thanksgiving weekend.
