MERCER COUNTY
Shenango River Lake
Rick Como (Sharpsville); filed 11-20: The last two weeks have been cra-
zy fishing on Shenango. We’ve been catching lots of white bass, plus hy-
brid stripers, northern pike, largemouth & smallmouth bass and an oc-
casional walleye. Many of these fish were in extremely shallow water.
But with the arrival of the Big Chill over the weekend, I’m thinking the
white bass shallow water bite has come to an end. On Friday the 18th – my last day out, I
caught one striper, about 40 white bass and lost a 20 pound musky right at the side of
the boat when the fish broke the line. Looking forward to increased walleye bite as water
temperature drops into the 40s. (See additional photos in the Livewell)
VENANGO COUNTY
Allegheny River
Jeff Knapp @ Keystone Connection Guide Service; filed 11-20:
We’ve had consistent success during numerous middle Alle-
gheny River guide trips the past two weeks. Lots of smallmouth
in the 14 to 17 inch range, and good numbers of quality-size
walleyes; northern pike and musky encounters as well. Hair jigs
and slow-rolled Bass Pro Shop Speed Shad Swimbaits have
been the productive offerings for both a bass and walleyes. My Jeff Knapp photo
most recent trip took place Saturday, Nov. 19th – a wild morn-
ing with wind, rain and snow. This was a leading edge of a cold front that will likely slow
the bass down. Water temperature was 48 degrees and clear for this time of year, with
perfect flow. While bass days will likely be limited from here on, I’m still guiding for wall-
eyes on both the middle and lower Allegheny. Photo: Ron and Vic Kotwica with a nice

Gene Winger (Oil City); filed 11-19: With water temp dipping into the 40s, we are finding
bass have moved to their normal winter pools. Last week, with slightly stained water,
bass were hitting on darker colored Winco Tastee Tube Supremes and C.W. Smallie De-
light jigs. This past week however, as water temps continued to drop, bass started ham-
mering Winco Chillee Willee – a downsized C.W. Smallie Jig. Friday was an exceptional
day however; in the morning we had a great bite on tubes but as the sun changed a chilly
morning into a 70 degree afternoon, the bass moved to shallow water where the Winco
River Darter Swim Bait gave us lots of action, landing over 20 nice bass –most in the
three to four pound range. What perfect fall afternoon on the river! (See lure photo here
