Randy @ Fish West PA; filed 4/7: Shenango Lake bite is starting to pick up with recent
warm up and fish are starting to feed. Pike bass and panfish ere active and chasing lures in
the lake and tributaries this week. Great start to 2019 angling season! Photos include Dave
Trapoldi, Jr with Pike and Randy holding 3 yr. old Elizabeth Mayenik with good largemouth
bass. Tight lines! (see photos above)
Rick Como (Sharpsville); filed 4/7: Spring has finally arrived and it’s time to fish again. We
are transitioning from cold water to springtime temps. Fish can be hard to find sometimes.
But look for the warmest water in the lake and you will find feeding fish. Walleye spawn is
winding down and perch spawn is in full force. Stripers and white bass are feeding right
now. We are catching them on crankbaits and jigs. Crappies are moving shallow during
warm days, but dropping back when we get a cold front. Best fishing is yet to come! (See
photos above)
VENANGO COUNTY
Angler Al @ Buttermilk Hill; filed 4-6: I took 12-year-old Cary Galkowski to Oil Creek for
Mentored Trout Day. We first tried Above Petroleum Bridge, which is the
northern divider for the artificial Catch-and-release area. She caught her
first of four rainbow trout on a yellow Rooster Tail Spinner. Then we
moved about ½ mile upstream. What a beautiful morning it was. Water
clarity was picture perfect. The creek level was prime. And the fish coop-
erative. Take a kid fishing, my friends! We need to be planting more
youthful seeds. Hard to believe, but sadly she and I were the only ones
on the stream according to the local WCO who stopped to check us. (See
