Allegheny River
John @ Galida’s Grubz; filed 4/8: Levi Inman needed a last-
minute partner for the river tournament out of Oil City on Sunday
since his father could not make it at the last minute. So, his moth-
er step in to fish him. They had a bag of Galida’s Grubz on the
boat, and caught all their fish on them – somewhere between 30
and 40 fish. Grubz catch Smallmouth Bass year around. (See pho-

to at right) Levi with Grubz catch

            Gene Winger (Oil City)
                - 4/1: The river is showing signs of life after a long winter
freeze. The bite continues to improve as water temps climb
into the lower 40-degree range. My granddaughter Livy and
I had a great week catching nice smallies using Z-Man TRD

Crawz and small tubes…finesse fishing at its finest. Most
bass were caught in deeper water, although some were
starting to stage in 5 to 6 feet of slack water. On her spring
break from school, Livy chose to spend the week fishing
                                                                                        Ivy with big smallmouth
with Grandpa…what a joy! (See photos)
                - 4/8: Had a great time fishing Friday and Saturday in Oil City
pool. Z-Man TRD Crawz and small stubs still my most productive baits. Good fish
in 5 to 6 feet of water. With water temp climbing, bass should start moving to

staging areas around spring spawning areas soon.

Jeff Knapp @ Keystone Connection Guide Service; filed 4/6:
Outstanding river smallmouth bass action during the past two
weeks on both guide trips and “fun” trips. I’m finding small-
mouth bass gathering in select areas as they become active in
warming water. Things can be slow if you are not in the right

place, but when you are in the zone it’s big fish and lots of Knapp photo
them. Finesse tubes, craws, hair jigs and Galida’s Grubz have
been getting them. I have openings for trips. (See photos)

Pete Cartwright @ Smalliesoftheyough.com; filed 4/5: Rainy morn-
ing on the northern Allegheny River. Smallmouths were biting light.
We used 412ubes to catch a few nice size smallies from 15 to 19
inches. Water temp was in the lower 40s. I have spring dates for

            wading trips available.
