Pete @ SmalliesontheYough.com; filed 5/5: during the last week of April, I fished the
Allegheny and caught bass in every spot I hit. I was using a tube and crawfish jig on 6-
th
pound Gamma Edge. All bass came from faster current. On May 5 , water conditions
were pretty good – just a little stained, but the bite was on. I caught some nice small-
mouth on 412ubes and Crawfish Jigs with a slow retrieve. All smallies were in current
seams. (See photos below)
Gene Winger, Oil City; filed 5/5: The river has been challenging these past few weeks
with high water events and cooler water temperatures but we’ve managed some good
numbers of bass. We are finding bass have moved closer to their spawning areas but
still spread out and on the move. The most productive baits have been swimbaits, jerk-
baits and small tubes fished in the outside edge of current breaks and in 4 to 5 feet of
faster moving water. During the days of high water, we found most bass trying to stay
out of the current by sliding into small backwater eddies around islands and structure.

Mike @ Mike’s Custom Baits; filed 5/5: I was out Saturday morning and caught a bunch
of bass…but the walleyes seemed to be tight lipped. I was back out on Sunday, and
caught some very nice bass in the 3 to 4-pound range but no walleyes. (See photo be-
low)
