VENANGO COUNTY
Sugar Creek
Angler Al (Franklin); filed 7/8: My brother-in-law Doc returned to fish Sugar Creek with night-
crawlers on Saturday. He caught 17 rainbow trout, 6 brown trout and 4 smallmouth bass. And
at our family gathering on Friday, using many of the items you gifted me, my out-of-town sis-
ters, nieces and nephews had a blast catching bass and bluegill from the pond. Thanks!
Allegheny River
Jeff Knapp @ Keystone Guide Service; filed 7/7: I’ve been managing to squeeze some river trips
between muddy water events, but
it’s been challenging. Many had to
be rescheduled due to poor condi-
tions. But when we’ve been out,
we are getting smallmouths up to
19 inches on spinnerbaits, soft
jerkbaits and Rapala X-Raps. The X-
Raps were working the few times
we had clearer water. I’m hoping
the forecast of rain-less weather holds true for the next week. A
couple trips to Kahle Lake have produced good numbers of largemouths, but mostly small ones.
My last time there in early July, Kahle was starting to show algal bloom – typical when there’s
lots of summertime runoff from adjacent farm fields. (See photos)
