eyes still shallow. No need to run deep. For example, I was out over weekend; our boat fished
30 feet of water and had our 4-man limit of 24 fish in two hours. My dad was out with a couple
buddies; they had their 18 ‘eyes in two hours. Crawler harnesses are the big thing; especially in
the shallower water. Right now I am selling far more crawlers than minnows – that’s unheard of
this time of summer. But the perch are a no-show on the lake and the ‘eyes are demanding
meat. I’m barely keeping up with crawler demand. Furthermore, I’ve got the hottest crawler
harnesses colors in the shop – exclusive colors from IMAX harnesses that no one else has –
check them out. Now the deeper walleye are a different story; deep walleyes are leaning more
to plugs – especially Bay Rats. And I’ve got an exclusive with a Bay Rat color made just for Lake
Erie Bait and Tackle called Orange Ghost. If you are going deep, this is a must have color, and it’s
only here at our shop.
Lynne @ East End Angler; filed 7/9: Walleye fishing is excellent on the East side. Off Shades
Beach in 48 to 105 feet suspended at 35 feet; off the Point at 48 to 53 feet at 35 feet down; off
North East over 55 feet at 35 feet down. Perch reports are more scattered; hearing 36 to 40 and
55 to 60 off Shades – it changes depending on wind. At PIB on the South Pier they are catching
walleye at night from around 7 to 10 pm; Rapala F18 is getting the nod. They are also catching
some crappies at night on the long minnow plugs as well – strange! On North Pier, the word is
catfish rather than walleye. Customers say Thompson Bay is filled with gar; also getting some
big largemouth in there but need a small boat or kayak to get into the bay.
Jeff @ Poor Richards; filled 7/9: Fishing is still very good for shallow walleyes. General range is
30 to 50 feet, while this weekend it was specific to 35/45 feet. Worm harnesses, spoons and
plugs are working with copper colored baits in high demand, along with Purple/Black and Wa-
termelon. Perch are spotty. Latest report was 32 to 45 feet off Trout Run to Elk Creek.
Someday Isle Tackle Fishing Team; filed 7/8: Barely surviving a few weeks without chance to
fish, the Someday Isle Team was back at last week.
Drifting Lake Erie has been action packed. We’ve been
pulling daily limits of nice walleyes along with other
species including catfish. The best fishing has been
best to the west of Walnut. The East side of town has
some walleyes but the bigger schools have not arrived
yet. Wonder Bread and Melon continue to be the
hottest colors on our Water Puppets. As far as depth, Erie catfish
we have caught walleyes from 17 feet to 45 feet. Bring plenty of crawlers!
Edinboro Lake
Dave Horvath (Edinboro); filed 7/8: Edinboro anglers are reporting bass off the docks and
catfish off the shore. Strong walleye bite in Erie West at 35 to 50 feet, suspended in water col-
umn 12 to 30 feet down. Still no solid repots on perch.
