Conneaut Lake
Fishing with Darl Black; filed 8-7: On August 2, Rich Turk of Ohio joined me for bass fishing in-
struction on Conneaut. It was a tough day but he caught a number of largemouths with his larg-
est going about 3 pounds – mostly on soft jerkbaits. But the big news regarding Conneaut Lake
is the big sunfish bite (bluegills and pumpkinseeds). I’m getting a lot of decent bluegills (8-
inchers) shallow plus trophy ‘seeds and ‘gills in deep water. And on Sunday, Marilyn showed me
where to catch keeper-size crappies using Bobby Garland Baby Shad in Monkey Milk! If you
want to pick up nice ‘gills for a fish fry, now is the time. Give me call at 814-720-1407 or email
darlblack@windstream.net to arrange a guide trip as soon as possible. Here’s what we have
been catching…
Bassmasters of Crawford County; filed 7-28: The club held the annual Conneaut Lake United
Way Bass Classic. Ben Lipiec and TJ Pennino won the event with 4 smallmouth bass and 4 large-
mouth bass totaling 24.61 pounds. I believe they reported this was the heaviest winning weight
in all the years they have conducted this summer event.
Canadohta Lake
Jerry @ Timberland Bait; filed 8-7: There is a pretty good northern and musky bite going on at
Canadohta this past week – hitting anything flashy! A couple of my customers fished Union City
Dam over the weekend, catching 21 bowfins! This coming Friday August 11 is our annual Kid’s
Fishing Derby. I open the pond here at the Bait Shop to fishing from 7 pm to 9 pm. There is a
$5.00 entry fee; no pre-registration. At 9 pm we give out awards and feed the participants. Go
to our Facebook Page or website for more information.

8-7: We did well on perch fishing yesterday, Sunday 8-6-17. We caught perch in 59’ of wa-
ter just East of Walnut. We also caught a record number of sheephead on my boat –
probably between 40 and 50! On Sunday, limits of perch were taken West of Walnut in
55’ to 60’. Walleye fishing remains outstanding in 55’ to 75’.
