er. Still lots of short fish. We are using 25-pound Gamma for walleye trolling. Perch bite is pick-

ing up; couple guys got a limit in 62 feet of water. At Lake Edinboro, shore anglers on west side
were catching catfish and panfish plus a few bass. (See walleye photo in Livewell)

Paul Stewart (Butler); filed 7-31: Went out on a perch head
boat for afternoon trip. Slow start drifting other spots and did
very well. Got 40 jumbo perch between two of us. (See pho-
                           tos)

        MERCER COUNTY

Mike @ CDS; filed 8-7: We’ve been moving a lot of baits this past week. Everyone seems to be
        going fishing now that it cooled down some. Stripers and walleyes are hitting at Lake Arthur;
heard of a 6-pound largemouth bass from Arthur, too. One customer reported an 18-inch crap-
pie from Lake Wilhelm. I’ve been fishing Neshannock Creek for smallmouth by kayak – catching

30 to 40 bass a trip on lures; mostly small ones but some in the 12 to 14-inch range. Still some
hold-over trout – I got a 20 incher recently. Stream fishing is a lot of fun.

        Lake Wilhelm
John @ Lake Wilhelm Marina; filed 8-6: We had a nice crappie entered in
our contest this past week. (See photo)

Vicki and John @ Fergies Bait; filed 8-6: Not hearing about many good

catches. Largemouth bass seem to provide the best action. A few crappies
are being taken with some of very respectable size. Bluegills are being
        caught all over.

Brandon Hanna (Grove City); filed 7-29: Hey Darl! I got a good largemouth
last night at Wilhelm. This one scaled at 5.22 pounds. Taken on a spinnerbait.

Windy conditions had them tucked into wood the past couple days. Been
tough up there for me; many small fish every day with one over 5 pounds
every now and then. (See photo)

        Shenango Lake
Rick Como (Sharpsville); filed 8-7: Fishing on Shenango the past two weeks has slowed down for
walleyes but catches of white bass has remained very good. Large schools are still feeding on
top during all times of the day. Crappies are hitting well all around the lake in shallow and deep

water areas. Channel cats can be caught using live bait and are very abundant. I’m catching a lot
of small stripers while fishing for white bass – that’s fantastic for the future, but anglers must be
able to identify the two species and release the small stripers. The shad spawn has been over-
