whelming this year. There are so many young-of-year shad that it’s a wonder that fish hit lures
at all. But they will hit lures if you match the size of your artificial to the size of baitfish. Best
fishing is still coming in as we move into fall.

Ken Smith (Sharon); filed 8-7: I caught over 30 crappies at Shenango on Saturday but only a

dozen were keepers. I fished brushpiles planted by COE out of boat traffic…good idea and good
        bite!

Dave and Dan Parisi; filed 8-6: We gave the jetboat a rest and went wading. Landed 70 small-

mouths in three trips. Numbers are looking good! (Photos in Livewell Overflow)

Steve Udick (Oil City); filed 8-6: Our group of “outsiders” took our annual river
trip from Tionesta to Oil City last weekend. There were twenty of us on the
water, but only 13 fishing. Saturday was a waste with 20 mph north wind. No
one got more than four fish. Sunday water was flat with bluebird sky. Mark
Miller of Meadville caught a small musky (see pic) and his biggest bass was 16

inches. Jim Allen of Oil City got five smaller bass (see pic) on a Bandit 100. My
biggest of weekend was an 18-inch smallie caught minutes after launching un-
der Tionesta Bridge; on a Green Pumpkin Mizmo Tube (see pic). Fishing was
                                                                                                  Miller’s musky
not great, but as always the food and friends were best part of trip. (Other

Jeff Knapp @ jeffmknapp@gmail.com; filed 8-5: I’ve been very busy guiding on the middle Al-
legheny the past two weeks, and the river has been kind. For the most part, we are finally

getting more typical summertime flows and water temperatures. Some trips produced 60 to 80
smallmouth bass, with several fish within a half-inch of the 20-inch mark. Several walleyes, too.
Productive lures have been Winco’s Solid Body River Darters, Rapala X-Raps, BPS Speed Shad,
and Galida’s Grubz (fished as a swimbait). All lures fished on 15# Gamma Torque with 10#
Gamma Edge leader. Folks wanting to experience summertime river smallie fishing should con-
sider arranging a trip, as I have August openings. (See photos in Livewell Overflow)

           - 8-5: I had some great clients on the Allegheny River on August 5 . Three generations out
there. We had a blast catching smallies. The bite wasn’t great but we caught them on a
very cool August morning. This was their first ever river fishing experience and first
Smallmouth Bass – congrats to them!
           - 7-26: We started at 7 am on a foggy river. The bite was pretty consistent all day. We land-
ed some decent fish using soft plastics including 412ubes from 412 Bait Company. Sum-
