 8-3: This is a mess of perch “the kids” caught on Sunday 7-30.
The walleye was caught by Ben Bauer, 12 years of age; fish was
26 inches long; he caught it while perch fishing. My grandson 10
-year-old Christian Ludwig is shown with double 12-inch perch.
Perch fishing has picked up on Erie. Limits are being reported
both East and West of Erie. Hot spots are off Shades in 55’ to
63’, and off The Point and off the Lighthouse in similar depths. On the West side lately the
best fishing is off Walnut in 57’ – but that could change. On Wednesday evening Aug 2,

we caught a mess of perch off Walnut in 57’, including a 31-inch walleye I landed on a #6
               perch hook.

Mike @ Lake Erie Bait & Tackle; filed 8-7: There has been no slowdown in walleye success for
boat anglers. The number one plug for Erie walleyes has been the Bay Rat; manufactured right
here in Erie, this minnow plug is available in specific colors that produce here in Lake Erie – it is

our number one seller! I had some reports of perch biting in 50’ to 65’—but don’t know if that
will hold. And with emerald shiners pulling a disappearing act, perch fishing may be tough in
the days to come. Only thing biting in the Bay seems to be catfish.

Dan @ Elk Creek Sports; filed 8-7: Guys are still catching walleyes – lots of small and some legal
size – if you stay long enough you can get a limit. But the perch are a puzzle; I had some reliable
info of perch catches in 52’ to 57’ off Walnut Creek. We’ve got used to summer perch in recent
years, but traditionally the perch bite doesn’t turn on until late summer and early fall – so there
is still hope for the season.

Someday Isle Tackle; filed 8-6: Recent wind and storms have slowed fishing a
bit. But the good news is the catfish are making their August return. They add a
whole other flavor to drift fishing on Erie with Water Puppets. We’ve picked up
a lot more silver bass this weekend, and big walleyes are eating them. Things
will improve once the weather gets steady. Have fun and be safe! (See photo)

Uncle John’s Elk Creek Campground; filed 7-30: When guests cannot get out
on the Lake for walleye, they catch catfish in Elk Creek. (See photo)

Ken Smith (Sharon); filed 8-6: The bite is amazing on Erie right now. Almost any
color Stinger or Contender spoon behind a dipsy will put fish in the boat.
Getting walleyes on everything, too. Downriggers are working but must
keep a close eye on them and check frequently as smaller walleye will

        hang. (See photo)

Dave Horvath (Edinboro); filed 8-4: Walleye bite still strong into August.
Aubrey Pursel and I boxed some very nice walleye. Aubrey got an 8 pound-
