Shenango Lake continues…
Scott Selle; filed 5/20: Here is a pic of my son Rod with a Shenango
Crappie. We boated 32 keepers this week with a chartreuse jig on a
Cabela’s Swim Crappie Minnow. Also attached is a pic of me with a
smallmouth bass at Shenango. (See photos)
Rick Como (Sharpsville); filed 5/19: With warmer weather and near
normal lake levels, fishing on Shenango has improved for all species.
Hybrid striper fishing has been really great all week long. Fish are Selle photo Shenango
feeding in shallow water and on points and flats all over the lake.
Lots of fish around 21 inches so the future of this fishery should be
good for years to come. Walleye are spotty but we are catching num-
ber of walleyes in the 12 to 14-inch range so stocking fingerlings is
paying off and the results should show steady fishing for some years
to come. Channel cats are beginning to hit all over the lake and white
bass are now in the river system at each end of the lake for spawning
runs. Some hybrids follow the white bass up the river so you can
catch both species in same area. (See photos)

Randy @ Fish West PA; filed 5/20: We fished Shenango hard the
past couple weeks and the lake is really lighting up! Every species is
feeding and they are hungry! Bass and pike are active on the shore-
lines, and hybrids are starting to chase bait. Crappies are pre-spawn
and post-spawn – and hitting good. Great time to be out on the lake
having fun! Tight Lines!
Bo @ BC Baits; filed 5/19: Two of our customers went to Shenango
this past week. They caught a limit of keeper crappies with our baits
near Golden Run. Como photo Shenango
Ken Smith (Sharon); filed 5/8: Strange thing happened to me at
Shenango Lake today. I caught a rainbow trout. Had to throw it
back because I didn’t have a trout stamp. (Editor: Trout are being
stocked in Shenango River near Hamburg. This trout was a long
way from the river – taken near swim beach. Anyone else catch a
trout in Lake proper?)
