Conneaut Lake
Editor’s note: Conneaut Lake reached high level this past week, re-
sulting in the Pennsylvania Fish Commission imposing a “No Wake” re-
striction across the entire lake prior to the weekend. However, the lake
level has dropped some and the PFBC lifted the “No Wake” ban on

BC Bait photo—CL
John Wilpula (Conneaut Lake); filed 6/18: Bass fishing on Conneaut has
remained pretty consistent. We are still getting them pitching Beaver baits and 10-inch
worms in and around the deep weeds. I’ve been getting bass all over the lake on deep
shoreline weeds so I haven’t put effort on the humps yet. However, the herbicide treat-
ment has really been knocking the weeds back.
Woodcock Creek Lake
Editor’s note: As a flood control lake, Woodcock has been high and muddy since the
monsoons started and it remains so. I stopped by over the weekend to visit with a hand-
ful of shore anglers; they were not having any success. I saw one fishing boat on the lake
and about 30 kayaks – paddling not fishing. Seems many people who had planned floats
on French Creek switched to Woodcock. Seems unlikely the muddy water in Woodcock
th
will clear up by the 4 .
Lake Canadohta
Editor’s note: No angler report but early July often sees a good musky bite at
Canadohta. In researching a future article on muskies for the Pennsylvania Angler and
Boater, Area Fisheries biologist told me that trap netting at Canadohta this season indi-
cated a good musky population in the lake. Canadohta does not get as muddy as Wood-
cock after heavy rains.
Sugar Lake
Editor’s note: We rarely receive reports from Sugar Lake. But here’s a
couple interesting catches this past week from Sugar. While visiting with
a family group of anglers at Woodcock, Sarah Cochran
showed me pictures of the big fish they caught Friday
evening at Sugar and then forwarded them to me. Sa-
rah caught a big bowfin, and 12-year-old Drake Craw-
ford caught a carp about 40 inches long. Sugar doesn’t

get as dirty from monsoon rains as some other area
waters. Anglers routinely largemouth bass, perch, crappie and chain
Drake’s 40 in carp pickerel. To learn a little more about Sugar Lake, see Marilyn Black’ ar-
ticle in the June/July issue of PA ANGLER & BOATER.
