Shenango Lake
Rick Como (Sharpsville); filed 6/23: The fishing at Shenango at this
time as slowed due to high water levels. All boat ramps have been
closed except for the Shenango Ramp at the Campground. Lake lev-
els reached 10 feet above normal summer pool at one point. Hybrid
striper and white bass fishing has been good if you take time to
search for the schools. Trolling mid-depth flats with minnow plugs is
working in areas of the clearer water. Walleyes and crappies are very
hard to find. A few bass are being caught around the trees that are
in the water. Lake level and water clarity are a real problem at this
Julie Como with hybrid time. Let’s hope in the next few weeks we get a break from the
monsoon rains. (See photos)
Brock Monocco (Hermitage); filed 6/21: Sorry to say I’ve got nothing
to report due to high water. Just a mess around Shenango Lake. We
had a picnic under the shelter in the photo just a month ago!

VENANGO COUNTY
Allegheny River
Editor’s Note: The Allegheny River is currently blown out and spewing
mud as result of both direct rain runoff and Kinzua Dam increasing
outflow to lower the lake level. I have not heard from anyone who
has fished the river in well over a week. Canoeing/kayaking and pow-
er boating are not advised.
Sugar Creek

Angler Al (Franklin); filed 6/23: On Tuesday June 11 , prior to the dra-
matic downpours, I was asked by a friend visiting from out of town to Owen Thomas
take her 14-year old son, Owen Thomas and his buddy Cole Stein-
baker, fishing. I decided to go to Sugar Creek and give them an educa-
tion on the art of drift-fishing nightcrawlers. It was exciting for me to
teach them proper presentation and necessary skill set to become
successful. They sure did great with a total of 15 trout caught and re-
leased! (See photos)
