P. 5
ERIE COUNTY
Lake Erie
Lynn @ East End Angler; filed 6/24: On the East Side, walleyes are reported at 50 feet
over 58 feet of water. The hot colors have been Rainbow or Purple/Black blades on
Crawler harnesses, bright green and Purple/Black on plugs. Kirk was doing well with a
Pink Tiger Husky Jerk this week. We’ve got a couple new hot items for walleye – Tru Trip
and Worm Burner; stop in and I can show them to you. Perch are about 40 feet off
Shades and NE. Still reports of walleye being caught off the end of the South Pier at
th
night on blade baits. Storms may mix things up before the 4 .
Tim @ Lake Erie Bait & Tackle; filed 6/24: Walleye success continues, but we may be
seeing some cracks in the mega schools. On Sunday, I was out and we had fish much
harder to locate and catch walleyes. We didn’t catch our fish as quickly as previous
times out, and we had to run figure eight patterns to go back through what we suspect
was a small school. Good news was we didn’t catch trash fish around the walleye like
we had been. Perch continue to be spotty, although there are good reports in 35 to 40
feet off Elk. Also perch in 55 to 60 feet off the Point. The perch fishing is better to the
east of Presque Isle than to the west.
Jeff @ Poor Richards; filed 6/24: Anglers are catch-
ing walleyes on crawler harnesses, plugs and spoons.
Copper or Purple/Black blades on worm harnesses;
Purple and Pink in plugs; Purple, Watermelon, blues
and greens on small spoons (not big ones). Walleyes
have been moving off the bottom in the early morn-
ing, suspending 5 to 15 feet off bottom. But when
the sun gets high, walleyes go back to hugging the
bottom. (See photo)
Dan @ Elk Creek Sports; filed 6/26: The news is still good – limit catches continue. Wall-
eyes reported between 45 and 55 feet of water on the West Side. No improvement on
perch fishing. Couple of my knowledgeable stream customers had an interesting time
on lower end of Elk Creek over weekend. With all the rain the other day, a massive
freshet of cooler water rushed into the lake, creating current trail which pulled in small-
mouth bass and brown trout. On Friday and Saturday, this couple caught smallmouth
bass to 6 pounds and brown trout to 24 inches in Elk Creek! This lake is always full of
surprises.
